Stonewall+ Launches Augmented Reality Site

Stonewall+ launched one of the first instances of Augmented Reality in South Africa yesterday for the new Chevrolet Cruze site. Very slick interface with some really awesome movement recognition over the element to view the car.
Great work.

Stringycustard added these pithy words on Oct 30 09 at 11:01 amThe 3D modelling is very well done but the site feels lacking. The features are text only (it would benefit from images) and one has to line up the text area to properly read it. Given that augmented reality in Flash is not smooth and can’t pick up symbols easily, this makes it tricky to read the copy (especially when the text block sometimes reversed itself, it would have been better to use the same texture non-reversed on each side of the plane so that it could be read from more angles).
The design is clean, but the icons at the start don’t actually show up once the site has loaded. The loader made it seem as if one could either print the marker from the floating icon there, or that the print icon would be clearly visible in the site. Instead one has to enter the control panel and click on text to print out the marker – the print icon is nowhere on screen.
It seems a pity that this site could have been really impressive with a little more care to usability and presentation of content (the text). Instead of using augmented reality as a starting point for a great site, it stays with augmented reality for a wow! factor that quickly wears off.
