South African NPO Positive Heroes aims to prevent millions of South Africans dying needless deaths as a result of the stigma, fear and ignorance surrounding HIV/AIDS. They work to provide compelling and inspiring role models, all living openly with HIV, to encourage and support others with powerful messages of hope.
On the 3rd of November this year Positive Heroes is joining forces with The City of Cape Town to host BLOOM, a fashion show featuring twenty-two of South Africa’s top designers at the Civic Centre.
Online apparel brand Springleap together with the Cape Town Fashion Council are also getting involved by launching a design competition leading up to the event entitled ‘Inspire Courage’. The competition invites talented designers and illustrators to submit a design that encapsulates the courage needed to overcome HIV stigma and that embodies the Positive Heroes concept of ‘ordinary people living extraordinary lives’.
The winning designer will receive a prize of R10 000 and two runner-up prizes of R2 000 will be awarded. The winning design will be featured on volunteers’ T-shirts at the Positive Heroes fashion event, be printed on to canvases to be auctioned on the night and be available for purchase on Springleap.com.
The deadline for entries is Friday 7 October 2011 and people are invited to vote for their favourite design on the Springleap website.
