These are some works by Junaid Cottle, layout designer by day, art lover/maker by night and compulsive drawer. Here’s a little of his story so far:
I graduated from Vega a couple of years ago, and even though they honed my creative skills, I spent my time drawing through every single lecture. I have a very hard time concentrating, especially when people are talking, so it was my way of keeping my mind open and fluid with creative energy, as well as keeping my sanity.
I am inspired by science fiction, films and books. My favorite fiction writer would have to be Aldous Huxley. Magazines and Layout is a great passion of mine as well. I am currently working at a magazine publishing company where I design editorial and adverts for specific clients. I make use of lots of different tools to make my art, from ink, to Posca and Molotow pens, to water paint, as well as scanning in textures and line work. I love making visuals that come straight out of my mind, purely abstract most times, drawing faces with lots of expression.
My favourite artists at the moment are Paul du Toit (from Cape Town), Lindsey Levendall (who sadly left our shores, but remains a major inspiration to me), Paul Senyol (LEGEND!) and Xanele. Her drawing style is so cool. You can’t not love it.
