Juanette Smuts is a Fine Art student at Ruth Prowse School of Art focusing on sculpting and printmaking. In her spare time she makes novel jewellery that resembles childhood favourites like Zoo Biscuits, Jolly Jammers and Sweethearts. Her line, called {faux}pas, started out as a way to make extra money for art supplies and has since become much more rewarding than she expected.

Juanette says, “There have been times when kids wanted a biscuit to eat and as soon as they realised that the brooches were not real, they ended up in tears. I take it as a compliment. I love making these brooches and pieces of jewellery and I am always experimenting to produce new art pieces.”

The brooches here made from resin and are handpainted. They’re going for R40 each and you can get in touch with Juanette on the {faux}pas facebook page.
