We, The People | A Campaign Celebrating Our Constitution

We-The-People-Chicken

This month South Africa celebrates the 15th birthday of our constitution and last week the country celebrated Constitution Week. This made for perfect timing for We, The People to be launched.

We, The People (not the rad BMXs in this case) is a campaign by Media Monitoring Africa that is on a mission to educate the South African public on the role and importance of the Constitution, to get us to read it and to make sure we know and understand our rights so we can ensure that our rights are exercised and hold those in power to account.

Our constitution is generally considered to be one of the most advanced in the world and the reason we can argue laws passed by the government, like the Secrecy Bill, in the Constitutional Court.

To rally the South African public’s acknowledgement, support and celebration of the constitution, We, The People has launched various platforms for us to share what we love about it.

Check out wethepeople.org.za, We, The People on Facebook or follow the hashtag #wethepeople on twitter for more info and to get involved.
