Perfect in their imperfection, Lauren Joffe’s interesting and intricate pieces have really caught our eye. The designer and maker of contemporary jewellery and objects is also an English Lit major so here is more about her in her own written words:

I am in the early years of my practice in contemporary jewellery and object making. I was raised in Cape Town and later in Melbourne, Australia. After high school I got bachelors degrees in Law and in Arts, majoring in English Literature. I never imagined I would become an artist, but I have always loved art and design. Serendipity and a Saturday afternoon walk around galleries in Melbourne definitely played a part in my decision to pursue creative goals.

I was accepted into RMIT University’s Fine Art program in the Gold & Silversmithing department, and studied under prominent contemporary jewellers such as Robert Baines and Mark Edgoose. My development as an artist can be seen as an outgrowth of my personal biography with South Africa, Australia and Japan. I have recently returned home to South Africa and after 3 months at Stellenbosch University as Guest Artist in Residence, will be setting up a studio in Cape Town. I am always at my happiest in the studio, making.
