Kalahari.com placed a tactical ad by JWT in yesterday’s City Press after¬†ANC secretary general, Gwede Mantashe called to boycott advertising in the paper.
Mantashe‚Äôs call for boycott was in response to ¬†City Press editor, Ferial Haffajee‚Äôs refusal to remove Brett Murray’s controversial image, The Spear, from the publication’s website.
Head of Marketing at kalahari.com, Liz Hillock said, “When we saw the headlines on Friday about the ANC asking advertisers to boycott the City Press, we immediately booked a space and turned this ad around very quickly for a Friday submission. Sunday‚Äôs City Press included interesting commentary on art and culture in our country which complimented the sentiment of the ad. We‚Äôre a proudly South African retailer, and the ad was created as a light-hearted and topical conclusion to a week of high drama.‚ÄĚ
