The music video for Van Coke Kartel’s third single, “Tot die son uitkom”, off their latest album “Wie’s Bang” was created by Chasing Migada Productions and released today.
For the video Chasing Migada Productions envisioned a five-minute short film set in the 80’s featuring two kids age seven, a boy, played by the drummer’s nephew Corben, and a girl, Corben’s friend Scarlett. As the story unfolds, they play in nature uninhibitedly, as kids did back then, without a care in the world.
The first two days of the three day shoot were spent at Silvermine National Park above Tokai.
The team let us in on the process, “The first day was tough with a beckoning Cape Town winter and two kids who wanted to play with each other rather than on camera. Indeed, a day suggestive of the old adage ‘never shoot with kids’. Out of the scheduled twenty eight shots, the crew managed to get thirteen. Day two, however, proved luckier. With perfect weather and a whopping thirty eight shots, the crew got just what they needed and the kids were wrapped.
The last day of filming took place in Tableview at the house of Corban’s parents, featuring primarily the band performing in the garage. Lior Phillps, having done a great job on the last video, was brought on board again for Art Direction and Styling. Going as far as hiring an old Renault to park out front, she transformed the garage and boys room into something that looked as if it had been in a time capsule since the 80’s.
Post Office post production handled all the editing and sound. Josh Borril did a great job finding all the little moments to make up the story of the two kids beginning their friendship. Josh and Darren spent some time grading the video in DaVinci to give it that real film look Darren and Quinton were after in order to sell the whole video as a proper short film.”
