TBWA\Cape Town created this ad as “a journey through some of South Africa’s favourite automotive ads, past and present, as seen through a Shatterprufe windscreen.”
What do you think, can you spot the references?

I don’t think that Shatterprufe ads are memorable enough to warrant this execution. It seems a bit discombobulating.
Nice execution, but I can’t remember all the references… Toyota Buddy and Castrol… that’s about it.
This must have been a researchers dream.
Old Dawid Kramer was in there with his red veldskoene, and the Toureg advert with the Arno Carstens soundtrack with the father and son. I think there are 4 in all. Two VW, one Toyota and one Castrol.
I think it would have been better to only reference famous SA car ads, especially brands of cars that come standard with Shatterproof wind screens made by Shatterprufe. Making the line ‘we’ve come a long way together’ more poignant and truthful. I guess the Castrol ref is artistic license.
I think it’s solid, clever referencing is better than blatant copying…
Clever, i enjoyed it and got all the references. Great work
Am I missing something? this is rubbish. What is the relevance of windscreens with castrol and all the rest to that matter. Agree with AE’s comment, you’re not good enough as a brand to dabble in this kind of advertising. Onion!
Clever concept, I really love this. I got all the references right away. What ruins the execution for me is the voiceover. A clever one-liner at the end would have sufficed, and left you thinking about it all for a little longer.
