Since graduating in 2007 from Lisof, fashion designer Tanya Demby has been on an accolade-studded journey. Also in 2007 she was placed 3rd in the Foschini Design Awards. In 2008 she was made a finalist in the Elle New Talent Awards, and was invited to show another collection in 2009.
Since then Tanya has lived in London and studied courses such as millinery, jewellery design, textile embellishment and business through London College of Fashion and The Fashion and Textile Museum. After travelling around Europe, namely Paris, Berlin and Croatia, she noticed a need in South Africa for beautiful, chic and timeless pieces.
Back home now, Tanya launched her women’s wear label, The Burn, with a pop up shop in Mandela Square, Sandton.
The Burn was named after Tanya’s late Grandfather, Bernard, who spent a lifetime in the rag trade. The premier range draws inspiration from the 50s but maintains a modern approach and is locally manufactured in South Africa.
