TEDxStellenbosch | What if Africa? - Between 10 and 5

TEDxStellenbosch | What if Africa?

If you’re up for some inspiration or ideas-wrestling this Friday then TEDxStellenbosch 2012 is your best bet. Taking place on Spier Wine Farm in Stellenbosch, the talks will focus on the theme ‘What if Africa?’ and the speakers will look into Africa’s past, present, and, most importantly, future.

Read all about it:

Africa is a continent of survival, a continent of making do with what is available, a continent known for its creativity and ingenuity. It is that creativity and ingenuity that is catalysed when we ask questions that start with those two words: “What if…”. Such visionary questions destroy assumptions and open one’s mind to the seemingly impossible.

TEDxStellenbosch is a unique community that celebrates world-changing African ideas in the heart of South Africa’s viticulture and academic hub.

As co-curator Gareth Pearson points out: “TEDxStellenbosch is no conference. It is a community of world-changers both on and off the stage. Attendees will walk away from this event inspired, energised and engaged in the world around them”.

This year TEDxStellenbosch is partnering with the Frederik Van Zyl Slabbert Institute for Student Leadership Development who is providing sponsorship for 20 students who are interested in driving forward a community around TED and TEDx at Stellenbosch University.

TEDxStellenbosch talks will be professionally filmed and shared online at monthly intervals to spread African ideas beyond our shores and boost local idea entrepreneurs.

What is TEDx?

In the spirit of “ideas worth spreading,” TED has created TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organised events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called  TEDxStellenbosch,  where  x  =  independently  organised  TED  event.  At TEDxStellenebosch TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organised.
