Cape Town illustrator Ninjabreadboy’s line-based style can be described as influenced by South African gang tattoos and graffiti. Recently he has been experimenting with a new technique which he discovered by accident. He says, “I was recently drawing in my sketchbook with a Sharpie I was given by friend. I accidentally smudged one of the lines and realized that it created a really nice shading effect which kind of resembles a Western traditional tattoo style, so I made these.”
The series of drawings is called Chappies, we’re loving the local spin.

why would anyone not in the penal system want a tat like this?
This rocks.
twee rand en daai tand. hell yeah.
This is awesome. It’s cool that you gave us the insight into the ‘accidental’ discovery of the shading technique. Can totally relate to those complete mistakes that reveal a whole paradigm of new and inspiring creative avenues.
Hmm.. perhaps embracing those mistakes is one of the keys to unlocking authentic originality?
