Johnny Nekton is a photographer based in Pretoria but this series of images was captured with 35mm film cameras at funfairs in various small towns. He let us know more, “It’s always been a strange and fascinating landscape for me. Is this what “fun” is, or has become for many of us? A predesignated area with old machines flinging us around, loud distorting speakers with a chaotic playlist and mountains of sugar in the form of candy floss and sweets for the kids. The way black & white interact is also a strong theme for example the man selling old-South African flags.” Find the rest of the images here.
As a photographer, Johnny Nekton is enamored by fleeting moments between people, cultures and nature. He says, “A wise kid once said, “Life is full of beauty & illusions”. I strive to capture both these elements. Sometimes they are the same thing, but the viewer also decides. I believe that is the beauty of photography.”
Johnny also recently shot some really great images of Oppikoppi this year that are definitely worth checking out. Find them under A Bittersweet Symphony and the less serious, golden-caped Oppilympics.
