The next phase of Rock Me Again, the annual recycled fashion initiative established by Capsule Projects, has commenced.
The initiative, in association with Jameson and vida e caffé, was started five years ago to harness the creative energy of both established and rising talent in design and photography while creating wider recognition for responsible fashion consumption and giving environmentally friendly design a fashion-forward image in the process.
This year’s project kicked off here with a call for product designers to send in proposals for designer garment collection bins. The finalists’ designs were produced and placed in selected vida e caffé stores in Cape Town, Joburg and Durban and the public was ask to discard unwanted clothing in them.
This next phase sees exciting South African fashion designers transforming these garments into fashionable items, their creations being modelled by ballerinas from the Cape Town City Ballet and shot by top local fashion photographers.
The final results will be displayed in a photography exhibition in September.
