On Friday the 21st on the corner of Long and Leeuwen streets in Cape Town, Painter and Copywiter Alice Toich will present The Stalked, an exhibition that’s part showcase of her painting and part social experiment.
The concept explores the notions of a life lived online and more specifically the construction of self identity in the realm of Facebook. To do this, Alice has chosen 10 people to unknowingly feature in the exhibition. She says, “I found them via the process of “Facebook stalking” and have invited them to come along to the exhibition opening next Friday.
The rules were that I could not know them personally, be friends with them on Facebook or have any extra access to their information, other than that access which anyone with an internet connection could have. I have interpreted the 10 profile pictures into oil paintings with a 1m x 1m format.”
A few ambiguous close-ups of some of the pieces are below.
Alice invites you all to the opening of The Stalked from 6:30pm to “witness some creeped out individuals along with some art.”

This is going to be epic Alice. So proud!
This exhibition is going to be amazing, I wish I was in the country so I could attend. Alice’s paintings prove she is one of the biggest talents in South Africa and her original concepts are going to take her far.
