An entire museum set, modelled on Washington’s famous Smithsonian, was built inside Cape Town Film Studios for this TV ad by Ogilvy Cape Town for the VW Amarok bakkie.
Production company Velocity Films created a planetary backdrop and five diaramas – showing dinosaurs, early mankind, the first flight, the moon landings and a robotic future – from scratch. They imported 130 tonnes of sand and 26 tonnes of rock to create the interior terrain for the exhibits and very detailed post-production work over five weeks delivered the credible museum look and feel.

what a very unexciting / uninspiring commercial.
truly, truly dull.
anyone remember Hondas Asimo walking through a tech museum, or sasol’s puppet? Tapping progress on the shoulders and saying, more forwards please. at least sasol and honda used a metaphor of their ideology, with the robot and the puppet, you guys just went and slapped the vehicle in. a lot of time and money, to end up in a very well trodden place.
Don’t wanna watch it again.
The things an agency will do to get an invite to the Velocity Loeries Party…
Seriously tho… nothing interesting or thought provoking about this ad.
A Night At The Museum, behind the wheel.
18+ people were paid a lot of money to create this journey through the fartiest ad ever created.
nice idea. just missing the human factor..
or maybe the car needed more personality. it move so slowly
The ad is fun, irreverent and most importantly gives the Amarok some personality. People expect an ad to do everything these days, but the best seldom do.
wow that is a lot of negativity. I actually liked it, as I do the amarok.
