We asked Sara Trickett of fashion, trends and pop culture site Itswhatiminto to let us in on what locally made products are on her wishlist this season. She replied with this most covetable list of great design and wares.
This is what made the cut and why:
This light is the most exciting piece of local design I have seen in a while – it’s made out of leather and would look so perfect in my house it’s not even funny – I am totally saving up for this!
I have had my eye on this beauty for quite a while now, I need a sideboard desperately and this one, designed by Durbanite Richard Stretton, has beautiful proportions and comes in a selection of different woods.
3. A year’s membership to The Creamery Ice-Cream Club
Obviously I can’t actually have this gift as I do not live in Cape Town but if I did, it would be mine! I am a huge ice-cream fan and The Creamery has amazing flavours and uses locally sourced ingredients – something you just can’t get anywhere else.
I really like what they do at Essie and having a hand-pressed calendar designed by local artists would be a lovely thing to look at everyday.
I love bold, graphic black and white designs and I love ceramics so this range is a no brainer for me – love it!
6. A pair of Sk8 Shades cat’s eye sunglasses
We featured Dave De Witt and his shades on www.itswhatiminto.
7. A Lalesso x Pichulik bag
I love the prints and details in bright African colours and I love a good collaboration – perfection!
8. A Large white springbok figure by Sootcookie Ceramics
I have two of the smaller bunny versions of this springbok and a third, larger piece would make quite the statement in my collection of white and gold bits and pieces. Man, I love gold!
9. These yacht shaped mirrors from Vamp
I just think these are fantastic. They have a bit of a Miami in the fifties, nautical feel to them. I could easily find space for all five.
10. Anything from Honest Chocolate
I have heard so much about the guys at Honest and what they do but have never actually tasted any of their special treats. Anyone feel free to send me some samples!
