In May of this year, a group of South African designers came up with the Mandela Poster Project; an idea to celebrate the life of Nelson Mandela by collecting 95 exceptional posters from around the world. In 60 days more than 700 posters honouring Madiba’s lifelong contribution to humanity were submitted by designers from more than 70 countries. The collection was curated and 95 posters will be exhibited around the world and eventually be auctioned by the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital Trust to raise funds. Further plans are underway for a limited edition publication showcasing 500 of the poster submissions.
The project was made possible by an independent team of volunteers, known as the Mandela Poster Project Collective. These are the posters by the South African artists who made it into the final 95. See the rest here or view the exhibition currently open at the University of Pretoria until Friday 26 July 2013. Gallery hours are 09h00 – 16h00.
