Much to our delight, Cape Town based music producer and performing artist Thor Rixon has an ample supply of wonderful weirdness. Following on from his music video for Misery Belle last week, his second treat of an album, Tea Time Favourites, has just been released.
To accompany it are some fantastic promo images shot by Katja Marr, who told us a bit more about the shoot:
“When Thor Rixon approached me about the Tea Time Favourites images, he said “I want them to be weird and amusing” so the shoot just grew from that statement and a couple of references. I think that they’re basically just reflective of Thor’s personality – strange and adventurous. We also wanted them to make the viewer feel a little uncomfortable, which is why we chose to shoot in the pool for example, fully clothed and devouring a soft-serve.
This entire shoot was organic. Most of the compositions came about by coincidence or we just happened upon a cool location by driving along the coast. I enjoy that kind of shoot environment the most, because it takes the edge off. Thor was just amazing to work with. He’s so creative himself, so we could bounce ideas off each other while shooting. He’s also such a trooper and even buried himself in a sand dune just because I told him to. This was a fun and interesting shoot, which matches the album’s experimental side.”
What more is there to say? If you’d like to be considered a gem in Thor’s book (and who wouldn’t?) then head on over here to download the album. Or give it a listen below!
