This collaboration blends the bold style of Pichulik jewellery with the minimalist approach to design that AKEDO is known for. AKEDO’S use of interesting proportions, rich detail, textured surface copper embellishments, pleather sets and ‘70s styled wide-legged trousers were the perfect fit for tasselled earrings, necklaces and detailed adornments in shades of olive green, teal, plums and blue, and made a strong statement at MBFW.
The AKEDO AW15 collection, through the juxtaposition of clean, minimalist silhouettes and vibrant colours, prints and beadwork, altered the notion of typical ethnocentric African design and made traditional elements contemporary.
With collaboration at the heart of the Pichulik brand Katherine says, “We focused on texture and shapes such as gold-foiled discs and balls as well as fringes to echo the elements used by AKEDO. The final show was a dialogue between two designers from two cities who speak different languages.” Eleni added, “Pichulik’s jewellery took the collection to another level. It added colour, texture and energy in unexpected ways which kept our collection fresh and vibrant.”
The collection will be available online at AKEDO Online from 1 April 2015.
