A new ad from Chicken Licken titled ‘The Great Dlamini’ causes us to imagine what we could do if we harnessed the power of a craving. Re-imagining the classic tale of the escape artist in an African context, the ad details the life and times of Henri Dlamini, the man who could inexplicably escape anything…except the craving.

 

The TVC was conceptualised by Net#work BBDO’s Coenie Grebe and Chad Goddard and directed by Terrence Neale of Egg Films. “The craving exerts a force of formidable attraction; a force so strong it can inspire incredible feats of human achievement in pursuit of its satisfaction,” says Brad Reilly, the agency’s ECD. Aired on 30th of May, the ad features an energetic a re-orchestration of Louis Prima’s ‘Sing, Sing, Sing’, the Big Band classic.

 

Mike Schalit, BBDO’s Chief Creative Officer explained that the team was challenged to live up to their previous work for Chicken Licken this year, like the Bang Bang Mix campaign. “I’ve said it before, but the relationship we have with the Chicken Licken team, and the in-depth understanding we’re fortunate to hold on the brand allows us to deliver brave and challenging work time and again. This piece is no different.”
