The Inner City Ideas Cartel (IC|IC) offers specialized services for individuals who are looking to rent an office space in a comfortable, sophisticated environment while expanding their network of professional relationships on a daily basis. Their unique way of working serves the practical business needs of many Capetonian freelancers and entrepreneurs and contributes positively towards the success of bespoke start-ups and commercial businesses. We chatted to some of the creatives working there about the services their businesses offer and why they love working at IC|IC.
Stokperd came about when Monya Eastman was renovating her home and struggled to find the kind of furniture she was looking for, so she decided to design it herself and have it made. All of her products are locally made out of wood or metal and clients can order existing ranges or custom made designs. Schuyler, the founder of IC|IC initially approached her with his idea to create an inspiring work space and together they created The Yoko Desk.
For Monya, IC|IC is a great escape from the dust and noise of the workshop and creative confines of her office home. It’s a beautiful space that operates like a 5 star “work hotel” where she doesn’t have to worry about maintenance because everything is already set up and has provided her with countless new clients and business opportunities.
Freelance Cape Town:
One of the key players ensuring that those working at IC|IC are linked to a network of like-minded people is Marius Vosloo of Freelance Cape Town. After reading an article on the rapid growth of the UK freelance community in 2014, he was inspired to start a network to assist South African creative freelancers in procuring work and developing business relationships. His online business is the biggest freelance start-up in Cape Town and its user-friendly platform makes it simple for anyone with a skill or service to showcase and advertise their work.
For Marius, the best service is that IC|IC offers goes beyond the rented office space; they operate as a strategic partner that’s willing to help grow people’s businesses without any hidden agendas. Freelance Cape Town has secured work for many freelancers and he attributes this to IC|IC going the extra mile, fostering creative synergy and their passion for connecting people.
Anna Marcelle Weddings and Events:
For Anna Marcelle, no two working days are the same. As a bespoke planner specializing in destination weddings in Africa and Europe, she believes in working closely with couples to create weddings that are specifically tailored to them. After working in events for over a decade, Anna desired increased flexibility and set up her own brand providing clients with full to on-the-day wedding coordination.
As freelancer, she needed a traditional space to work from without large overheads, and while working from home seemed like a good idea, it wasn’t always conducive to productivity. IC|IC provides her with a platform to do business in a smart, professional environment and has become her base to work from in between venue visits and supplier meetings. The fast internet, the plethora of entrepreneurs, the delicious coffee and the ability to advertise via word of mouth has added to the continued success of Anna Marcelle Weddings and Events.
Grand was founded by Brendan Mitchell and Ryan Scott Wynn and specializes in high end design. After working with clients like Distell, BMW Motorrad and Tribe Coffee, they saw a niche in the market for South Africans who are no longer seeking permission to make their brands grand, so they started their own agency to fulfil this vision.
In their line of work, it’s easy to become isolated but working in a community environment at IC|IC motivates them with the right energy to grow, do what they love doing, and maintain their high quality design thinking. They have a soft spot for coffee and cafe culture and say that aside from the beautifully furnished surroundings, it’s the people who are the main feature and the greatest assets.
