Last night independent multi-disciplinary gallery ROOM hosted the second instalment of the Bright Night Project at their new premises on the ground floor of Ellis House in New Doornfontein. First shown in a one-night only “black out” exhibition at MOAD, the Bright Night Project features 23 print works from various illustrators and photographers, among them Sindiso Nyoni, Mzwandile Buthelezi, Ross Garrett, Koos Groenewald, Chris Saunders and Karabo Poppy Molestane.
The exhibition was curated by Leigh-Anne Drakes and is in association with Little Sun, a social business and global project addressing the need for light in communities that don’t have access to electricity through distribution of high quality LED lights.
The featured artists were commissioned to produce individual artworks in response to the broad theme of light. The desired outcome of the project is to raise awareness around the need for light in communities without electricity and the work done by Little Sun. As an expansion on the theme of light artworks are presented in a darkened gallery only illuminated with solar powered Little Sun lamps.
Catch the Bright Night Project at ROOM in New Doornfontein until 31 December.
