South Africa’s prevalence of HIV ranks as one of the highest in the world and among the number of contributing factors is stigma against both HIV and homosexuality. In a country still finding itself, many South Africans continue to harbour conservative ideals around sex and sexuality.
We The Brave is encouraging a culture of conversation and de-stigmatisation around sexual behaviour and orientation in their latest campaign #SchoolYourself. Launched on World Aids Day in 2015, the digital campaign engages and educates people on various sexual health topics such as prevention and regular STI testing. The campaign also aims to encourage South Africans to be brave enough to get tested and help decrease the spread of incorrect information regarding HIV.
Keeping it “real” and facilitating honest, constructive conversations around HIV and sexuality, We The Brave provides a platform for MSM community members to share their brave stories and also features real MSM models for the #SchoolYourself campaign.
