Dancing through the streets of Sea Point in Lance Herman’s video for ‘Rollercoaster’

Lance Herman and friends took to the streets one lamp-lit night to create an impromptu music video for ‘Rollercoaster’. Directed by Anton Du Preez, the filming took place around Sea Point in dimly lit bars and convenience stores, where Lance sings casually and Lou-Lou Taylor dances like nobody’s watching – at one point they’re joined by a pair of delightfully enthusiastic shopkeepers. The video is melancholy, a little silly, largely unconcerned with narrative, yet perfectly captures the mood of the track.

“It’s a pop song built up of drums, bass, guitars, vocals with some synth parts too. My friend Shane Cooper helped me produce it, I guess maybe subconsciously we were trying to get the voice and instruments to swirl or soar. At one point towards the end, an organ part comes in, giving the song a carnivalesque vibe,” says Lance.
