Photo Essay: Picturing the mundane by Bert Pauw

We first encountered the work of Cape Town visual artist Bert Pauw at the 2015 Michaelis graduate exhibition. We admired his witty sculptural installations and sharp aesthetic sensibilities. Recently we came across his Instagram feed which is a continuation of this, artfully counterbalancing the beautiful and the mundane. We invited Bert to curate a photo essay from his images, and this is what he came back with.

‘More or Less’ is a collection of photographs that document a spectrum of structures. A spectrum of ‘permanent / light / useless / personified / organised / solid / utilitarian / heavy / minimal / made / found / ephemeral / man-made / and meaningful’ structures.
