The catwalk may be where we first see the Autumn/Winter 2017 collections in their entirety, but backstage is where all of the action happens. Mandy Nash recently shared with us a striking series of refreshingly candid backstage photographs at Mercedez Benz Fashion Week Cape Town, together with a a fun poem about her experiences from the event:
On tables there were all kinds of makeup, and hot girls who looked like they’d done many a push up.
Girls who grew up on the runway as a kid,Strutting up and down, never blinking an eyelid.Models arrived, having given their hair TLC and care,But after some shows in, you’ll see the wear and tear.“Shhhhh” – the producer hushes everyone as the lights dim.The music plays and the dresses sway as front row editors grin. While the crowds were queuing at the bars,Shana Morland was dressing models in looks inspired by galaxies and stars.
After the shows, stylists elbow each other for the best looks,There’s always one knuckle buster creating havoc,But it was still a night for the books. The concern started to growAs wind started to blow and blowMille Collines was prepping for his showWhile Stefania’s president production was cut short before the final bowThe South Easter grew and grewAnd fashion week was over as the winds blewThanks AFI for thinking safety firstAnd creating anticipation and a fashion thirstTo be continued – we can’t waitIf only the South Easter could have been three days late!
Mandy is a big behind the scenes mover and shaker in the fashion industry. After studying fashion design at Elizabeth Galloway she climbed the editorial ranks to junior fashion editor at Glamour before taking to online at Superbalist. Film photography is a recent exploration for the creative, “I am busy experimenting with film – having been the stylist on shoots it’s nice to take on a different role. I love challenging myself and learning new things and film photography is the latest challenge,” she shares.
