‘Wear what we want’ – Cape Town jewellery studio Black Betty drops intimate and personal look book

Established in 2012 by Kristin Weixelbaumer, Black Betty Design encourages its jewellery wearers to honour personal taste as opposed to being a “slave to style’’. The label’s latest collection, SHINE ON, showcases bold lines and thick curves with minimalist appeal, while its gender-fluid look book disrupts heteronormative dress codes.

The jewellery design studio takes inspiration from South African artists, models and designers with a striking sense of bold individuality such as Jackie Burger, Nicola Scoop, Gabi-Lee Smit and Yolisa Mqoco, to name a few. For this look book, shot by Ricardo Simal, they selected to work with Cape Town-based models Hana Jane Sho, Mziyanda Malgas and Brandon Brown, who too own their beauty and style without apology.

”To dance to your tune is easier said than done and many of us lack the courage to wear what we want to. Above all, we need to be brave! With a little encouragement, we can defy boundaries. For the SHINE ON collection, we set out in search of the brave to represent a unique, bold style,” says the label.
