Fatima Arendse: The ‘feisty feminist’ and Cape Town stylist to watch

Style crush Fatima Arendse — self-described as a “feisty feminist Kaapstad meisie” — is a 29-year old independent stylist and model from Cape Town, who started working in fashion straight out of high school. First in retail, and later as a fashion buyer at retailer Traffic in Cape Town before diving into the world of styling.

Fatima’s Instagram is a testament to her style, characterised by a fun mix of saturated colours and more lowkey monochrome tones. But her work is even more impressive; exhibiting a bold mix of prints, high fashion and streetwear.

When asked about her styling inspiration, Fatima cites her upbringing. “Both my parents were super into fashion, and I basically grew up [surrounded by fashion]. And my culture — as a brown person — I think that’s really where my street style would come from.”

Fatima has styled editorials for publications such as Nataal, Unlabelled Mag, and Highsnobiety, as well as brands like Twobop and Kid Karma from Berlin. She’s worked with photographers such as Jabu Newman, Vitali Gelwitch, Jody Brand and Vivian Dewaal, and whole lot more.
