Meet the Creatives is 10and5’s new summer series, which features interviews with some of Joburg’s hottest creatives working across industries such as fashion, media and music.
Since she established her successful Instagram online shop and denim brand Denim Palace two years ago, quickly becoming the jeans queen of Joburg, Nwabisa Ntlokwana has grown from strength to strength (quite literally — her Instagram following has amassed an impressive 16k in no time!).
Here we chat to the entrepreneur providing some of the best denim on the market to fashionistas in South Africa about personal style, her five faves at the moment and more.
How would you describe your work in a song?
Icon by Jaden Smith.
What’s the latest and most exciting project that you’re working on?
It has to be the summer collection I am working on for streetwear brand Denim Palace for 2018.
What are you working on next and what can we look out to from you?
Currently my work revolves around denim. I can’t disclose much but Denim Palace is my main focus to look out for.
If your style was an artist, who would it be?
Street art galleries give me goosebumps and SONNY has to be my fave. I remember the first time I travelled to Johannesburg, as we were exiting the city centre, I saw one of his artworks on the street. I literally wished I could jump off the bus to experience it.
Who’s in your Top 5 Faves list at the moment?
I would prefer to go for the local people currently doing the most on our scene right now: Themba Mbuyisa, Kwena Baloyi, Tebogo Mbewu, Manthe Ribane and Nomalanga Shozi.
