Limpopo animator Cyzo explores futurism/feminism in Black Snow series

Joel Matladi, an animator from Limpopo who also goes by the name Cyzo, has created a new visual series called Black Snow.

Black Snow explores futurist narratives and also pays to tribute to imagery from gaming, movies and magazines through emotive and engaging work that subverts tired African stories told in western media, according to the self-taught digital painter and illustrator, who was selected as a 2017 Design Indaba Emerging Creatives Programme.

This inspiring animated series features several black women characters, each with a name and description, and who embody and deliver the themes the series explores. Along with drawing inspiration from various traditions, cultures and popular trends, Joel also looks to feminism to create his illustrations.
