picture_391

Bowwow SA Campiagn

50 puppies found.
Thoroughbred Italian.
Looking for stylish homes and out-of-the-box-grooming.
Please nurture and send back when ready.

These adorable little design creatures was originally designed in 2005 by iconic designer Eero Aarnio for the Italian contemporary design brand Magis. To date over 60 000 of these puppies are roaming the planet.

ID Solutions together with Magis has chosen 50 South African talents, from architects to interior designers to fine artists, the press and cutting edge retailers for their design pedigree to participate in this creative canine project.

As the watchdogs of Bowwow, ID Solutions and the Design Indaba Trust challenged these design houses to dress, decorate and makeover their Magis puppy so that he can hold his tail up high amongst other clever creations in the design arena.

The job was to ensure that your puppy reflects South African design as you see it today. A chance to let others see the creative mind at play and an opportunity to showcase the wealth of design spirit in SA to the rest fo the country and the world.

All participants in this puppy project were displayed at the Design Indaba Expo at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from 27 Feb till 1 March 2009. An overall winner will be chosen, judged by a panel of Design Indaba Speakers, to represent SA in an international Bowwow competition contested by 32 countries.

The aim of this project was to culminate in an auction where 50% of the proceeds will go towards bursaries awarded to design students through the Design Indaba Trust, and 50% going towards the commisioning of a public sculpture for the Greenpoint Staduim precinct.

So lets take a bow for all these Design Houses who put their design skills to great use in a proactive, puppy dog loving way! They had fun, made a noise with their creative know how and didnt let anything hold them back.

Check out the some of the puppies below.

Recessionista (VW)

volkswagen-south-africa recessionista commercial

Due to the credit crunch shoppers has changed their way of indulgement, they now only spend the amount of money they think the product is worth and and will not pay over the mark for it anymore. This opened a whole new gap for opportunity in the market, especially the creative industry.

Volkswagen together with Ogilvy

Interactive took this opportunity and launched a ‘ Recessionista‘  campaign for the Volkswagen Citi Golf. They play on the humour and seriousness of the credit crunch to increase sales of this affordable deal they are offering.

They claim that consumers shouldn’t let the recession get in the way of their style, they must become a recessionista and be cool despite the economy.  Drive a Volkswagen Citi Golf.

They take this further by adding an interactive section to the website where consumers can post their tips on how to beat the recession on the site and even add photo’s, videos of  links to it to make it more fun. They do this in a humorous manner to keep a smile on consumers faces while dealing with the credit crunch.

A couple of the recession tips on the site includes things such as : Make you own cologne from the flowers in your garden, or dont pay for weekly therapy sessions – tell your fiends. Shower together, Old telephone directories make ideal personal address books. Simply cross out the names and address of people you don’t know. Save money on expensive personalised car number plates by simply changing your name to match your existing plate -   Mr. CA 3001 273

Go check out this awesome campaign at : www.vw.co.za/recessionista and post your favourite tip to beat the recession, be part of the crowd crunching the credit crunch.

We couldn’t find any more of the creative work – it seems as if the campaign isn’t too popular online (there is only the single microsite). I’ve also seen some ads in magazines, but nothing else online. If you might have some copies of them lying around… send it in to us!

Player 23 from Vodacom using Mobile, Above the line and Adobe Air

Vodacom has launched a new campaign (Player 23) to target the enthusiastic rugby fans for the Super 14. It features a rugby fan called Jan, the 23rd player, who’s following his daily routine – but with the team following him around and trying to be exactly like him.

Besides the hilarious TV ads, Vodacom also has a website where fans can download their own lockers and personalise them by adding their names, pictures and favourite teams.
Fans can also download all the latest news on the Super 14 and other rugby mobile content to personalise their phones via the mobile element. You can read the entire press release on Bizcommunity.

DraftFCB and ClickThinking was responsible for the concept and production of the PLayer23 Campaign.

What we’re very interested in is the tight integration between above the line (there is an enormous amount of print and TV exposure) and the way that has tied in with Mobile, and the desktop. This is the first mainstream application we’ve seen that uses Adobe Air for the desktop, and pretty tight mobile integration. The main advantages of a platform like Adobe Air is that you develop your app once, and it can be deployed to OSX or Windows, plus you have the added benefit of having free reign by using Flash, and the runtime brings the package size down quite considerably. 10and5 is hoping to get a case study out of the guys responsible for the campaign!

We’re hoping to get a case study out of the guys who produced the entire campaign – it would be very interesting to see what their findings were and how successful the Player 23 campaign was when it comes to and end.
