Public art at IRT Stations

Cape Minstrel mural at IRT station

If you’ve used the new Integrated Rapid Transport system then you would’ve come across these mosaic murals along the walls of the station and walkways. Each one was designed specifically with the history and culture of Cape Town in mind. The murals include mosaic art of Cape Minstrels, the Mouille Point lighthouse, horse-racing, the Metropolitan Golf Club and supporters of the world cup.

Click through to see some of the mosaics. (pics found at www.andrewboraine.com)

Smirnoff Package Desing Mash-up by JWT

The other day we featured some mad Smirnoff package designs done by local illustrators. Here is a mash-up of the work as well as a bit of an explination behind the theme of each design. The video was created by JWT Cape Town.

We-Are-Awesome launches spaces

We Are Awesome spaces featuring Angie and Shane Durrant

The boys over at We-Are-Awesome have launched their latest project titled Spaces – it’s a collection of spaces people inhabit.

In the first issue they feature Angie and Shane Durrant:

Shane and Angie kindly showed us around their apartment in Jozi and now we in turn are showing you. Avid collectors of all things nice, Shane and Angie have managed to hoard a great variety of porcelain animals, dvds, books and artwork. That combined with the ultimate collection of band memorabilia and clothing items from all corners of the fashion earth, makes for a good living space.

Check out more about We Are Awesome Spaces.

Tyred furniture updates

Check out some of the updates from TYRED Furniture – the recycled tyres made into chairs.
TYRED furniture will also be at the Design Indaba Expo this year, so swing past their stall to check out the chairs!

TYRED will create 10 PLAIN WHITE CHAIRS for 10 chosen potential artists/illustrators/designers/makers/crafters to create their own look, and the winning designer chair chosen by TYRED, will be physically showcased at the Indaba at our stand. The other 9 entries will be printed and postered and showcased too over the Indaba weekend. We are looking into charity options, and will confirm them publicly and to the designers when we know. (Cape Town only, sorry guys)

Mail tyredfurniture@gmail.com if you are interested to create a custom chair, and to get the full details of what we had in mind. Also check out the Facebook group.

MyOws is a recently launched local application that every designer really should have. In a nutshell uploading your work to MyOws provides you with evidence as well as a deterrence measure designed to prevent theft. The site will also assist you in contacting unauthorised users of your work and is able to provide verifiable third-party evidence on your behalf, at your request.

Cape Town Tourism Blogger Activation Day

Cape Town Tourism recently had a blogger activation day. The idea behind the day was to show them and their followers why Cape Town is cool. The day encompassed the bloggers driving Reynard F1 styled cars that could hit up to 240km/h!

Their PR team hosts quarterly media days with different areas in marketing/media in order to network with them and let everyone build relationships within the local media and their area of business.

Check out the awesome photos over at Cape Town Daily Photo and Cape Town Travel.

Unfortunately the 10and5 team could not attend, but be sure you’ll see us at the next one.
