This nifty idea from Sea Harvest is a website that offers suggestions on where to go or what to do every night. You can pick a city – Cape Town, Durban or Joburg – and it tells you what’s on or you can pick ‘Other’ and browse through other suggestions. Each recommendation displays along with a ‘Hake yes! I’d like more info’ or a ‘Go fish! Next suggestion’ button so you can keep clicking until you find something that suits you.

These ‘election’ posters were spotted around Cape Town by one of our readers. Clever, don’t you think?

Kalahri.net spoofed the street-pole posters from the current election campaigns by the IFP, ANC and DA. Inkhata Freedom Party becomes Internet (shopping) For the People, the ANC’s campaign promise a better life for all is swopped for A Better Present for All and the DA’s we deliver for all is read We Deliver for Free (for orders of R250 or more) on the kalahari.net posters. Great example of tactical advertising. Klickela kalahari.net.

A RECAP: This ad was made is response to Vodacom’s new branding. On featuring the ad here we heard from Dulux that it wasn’t them and they had no clue who made the ad (and still don’t)! Their amazing response was as follows:

A mystery Dulux fan made this advert in response to a cellular service provider’s “Red” campaign and it caused quite a stir after appearing on 10and5 yesterday. To celebrate the creativity of the idea, Dulux SA will donate 40 litres of paint to a charity of 10and5′s choice. And if the mystery fan comes forward, we will donate an additional 40 litres to a charity of his or her choice too. The only catch? It can’t be red. After all, there are so many other colours to choose from.

So thanks to Dulux we’d like to present 40 litres of paint to a non-profit organisation that we know will put it to great use: Write on Africa

Founder, Ricky Lee Gordon, is very excited about the donation and will keep us posted as to what the paint will be used for. And it turn we’ll make sure to document the whole process to share with you.

See some examples of the good work they do here and here.

Thanks again to Dulux!

We-are-awful has been doing some ‘borrowing’ from local pop culture site we-are-awesome. Besides the play on their name and scaling part of their logo, they’re using we-are-awesome’s street fashion photos to pit Cape Town hipsters against each other. And it’s up to the public to vote who is the most awful. Check it out here.

Now before anybody gets upset their byline does say, ‘Just for fun and charity, don’t sulk.’ There is also an option on their site to donate to Ikamva Labantu (an organisation that builds and supports creches as well as other great deeds) if your karma needs balancing.

Update: we-are-awesome have responded on their blog, It seems someone has taken an interest in we-are-awesome and has chosen to give you options we never did. It’s not us, in case you wondered. We are all for being charitable but usually I just give some money to the needy or an institution that is better equipped than me to distribute money and goods. Making fun of others in order to give to the needy isn’t very charitable.

Anybody know who’dunnit?
