John Edwards wins ELLE DECORATION SOLVE awards

John Edwards wins ELLE Decoration SOLVE awards with VUZU Lamp

Congratulations to John Edwards who won the 2009 ELLE DECORATION SOLVE awards.

This is what John said about his design:

“Next year being the World Cup, I wanted to design something soccer-inspired. The first idea I had, ended up as the one I submitted – a light based on the vuvuzela. Next year, visitors to South Africa will want to take home more than a plastic curio – the design-savvy visitor will look for something more. The Vuvu lamp will be made of timber and will be turned to get the right shape.”

The Eagle Awards

Unknown-1

King James Cape Town is the agency behind the latest Eagle Awards campaign. Here’s what they had to say about the work:

The Eagles 2009 – Blood, sweat and advertising.

Back in 1996 Independent Newspapers decided to do something proactive to promote and develop exceptional print advertising in South Africa, and so The Eagles Print Awards were born. Since then The Eagles have become the benchmark for print advertising in South Africa. With the Black Eagle being so tough that it’s only ever been awarded 5 times.

Together with brave client, Mike Vale at Independent Newspapers, King James have created a series of posters, print ads and magazine ads as well as an engaging and unique website created with their digital partner Mnemonic, to tell people in the industry about this year’s Eagle Awards.

The theme for this year’s awards is based on a human truth that’s just about as old as creativity itself. Since the beginning of time creatives have gone to great lengths to crack that stonker of an idea. From enduring sleepless nights, to sweating bullets, inhaling vodka or selling their souls to the devil. Then when they finally crack it, the hard work has only just begun. These days budgets are smaller, time is shorter, the logo will always need to be bigger and every year The Eagles judges are tougher. Hey, nobody said it was easy.

The Bookmarks Awards

The Bookmarks Awards

As most might know the first annual Bookmarks awards took place last week. While some drama revolved around the event, overall I think it was a step in the right direction.

The Bookmarks is exactly what we at 10 and 5 want, another medium to see the quality of work out there. To see what other digital companies in South Africa are currently doing and who is pushing the boundaries of what has been done thus far.

Congrats to all involved! We would also like to know your thoughts on this Awards Ceremony and if you think it has a future. Click here to listen to what Adrian Hewlett, chairman of the Online Publishers Association (OPA) has to say about it.
