Roadtrip with MINI Countryman
This short movie was created for MINI Countryman by Luma. It was directed by Chris Wieffering and Jason Cullen. This is what Jason said about the project:
We decided to try something different, so leaving the world of animation and design for a brief moment; we went out and shot a “Road trip” video with the new MINI Countryman. This was a campaign for MINI that followed 4 friends and their adventures to the soccer world cup. It was by no means an easy task, as we had to be super careful as this was the only MINI Countryman in South Africa. We shot 16 locations in 3 days.
Luma Arcade’s new game “The Harvest”
Luma Arcade has been getting a lot of attention regarding a game being developed in-house called The Harvest, which was announced by Microsoft at GDC and MIX in San Francisco and Las Vegas earlier this month. It was built on Luma’s in-house 3D rendering engine built on the XNA Game Studio 4.0 framework. The Harvest runs on what Microsoft is calling the ”Three Screens”, namely the Xbox360, Windows PC and the new Windows Phone 7 Series.
Take a look at some of the inside scoop from Slashgear, Engadget and AnandTech.
In the game world, the player must fight through the decayed remnants of an ancient holy city many years after a vicious alien invasion in order to save what is left of humanity.

Luma produces CGI for new TV show

Luma Animation recently created a new series that will soon be displaying on SABC 3.
Bun&Bunee started as a single animated short, but has since evolved into something far greater. The idea was to simply have fun with the most basic of character designs, and to really push our storytelling and animation abilities to the limit, while trying to make people laugh out loud. The result is a strong, fresh brand of simple, lovable characters in funny, even crazy situations, providing light-hearted entertainment which is targeted at the whole family. The Bun&Bunee series can be summed up as a mixture of classic Saturday morning cartoons and wacky, cutesy Anime style animation, executed in slick 3D.
Check out the first two promos below! Awesome work indeed.
Making of Standard Bank Global TVC
We’re suckers for behind the scenes work, so when the production house Luma sent us this work that’s behind one of our favourite campaigns for Standard Bank we were pretty excited. The video you see above is the completed version.
The Standard Bank Moving Forward campaign is a piece of work that we’ve really enjoyed, from the illustration through to the execution. Luma was brought in to produce that commercial, and they’ve just put out a blog post explaining the behind-the-scenes production work, including some examples of mock sketches and an assortment of other tid-bits that gives one an interesting perspective into what it takes to produce a 3D TV commercial. Read on the Luma blog how they completed the project in an 8 week turnaround time.
The making of: Ford Everest bear by Luma
We’re suckers for behind the scenes snap shots and examples of process work. It’s a great way to see inspiration and thinking behind some of the ads and campaigns you view on TV and billboards everyday.
Luma recently completed the Ford Everest TVC, and did some character development around the lead character, the bear (not the car). In this blog post they explain all the thinking and rationale that went into the production, as well as a couple of examples they went through before the final was put together.
Take a look at the Luma Blog.
Do you have any process footage of your campaigns? If so, why don’t you send it in?
