You never quite know with Johannesburg’s innovative fashion design studio Black Coffee, and their latest venture, BLKbook, is no exception. Billed as an experimental retail installation, their new fashion range explores notions of literacy, whether literal, emotional or visual, using books.
Vertical gardens are big news in the northern hemisphere and now Leon Kluge, a landscape designer and nursery owner, has brought them to The South in style by designing one of Africa’s first vertical paradises in Maputo. “Vertical gardens really can grow anywhere – in dry, cold, wet or warm climates,” says Leon. “My clients, developers Luis and Christina da liz Loureyro, wanted a prominent facade made of plants. The design and colour had to deliver a ‘wow’ factor that would capture the city’s attention.”
