LOVE AND HATE was very busy in Europe earlier this year with exhibitions in the Netherlands and Germany. The first was as part of the South African group show FOR THOSE WHO LIVE IN IT: popculture , politics and strong voices. For interviews with the artists involved see this previous post. The second exhibition was their own. Their friend Melissa Williams has done a write up on their time there:
In May 2010 LOVE AND HATE STUDIO artists 35ten73 and black koki were invited by Angelique Spaninks from the “MU” project space in Eindhoven in the Netherlands to create a black and white illustration on a huge 10m x 5m canvas. The drawing took place over the course of 9 days, outside the library and design school in the DE WITTE DAME building, where the gallery/projectspace is situated.
This was in preparation for the launch of the group-show “FOR THOSE WHO LIVE IN IT: popculture , politics and strong voices”, which opened at the venue on the 21st of May. The show featured videos, photography, street art, publishing and installlations by 10 South African arists including Anton Kannemeyer of Bitterkomix, Faith 47, Gugelective and Musa Khumalo.
While in Europe, LOVE AND HATE STUDIO launched a solo show at THE FABRIK gallery space in Hamburg, Germany. The show featured the launch of their respective books under publishing company COOL DE SUCK, each book limited to an edition of 100. The show also included an installation, paper works, cutouts, murals as well as a mural and 2 canvasses by Hamburg artist YVEZ. Loads of locals came down to check it out , drink beer and have a good time !
