05 Oct Rayaan Cassiem – Digital painting
Rayaan Cassiem is currently working as a Senior Designer at the Cape Town Branch of TBWA. These are some of his digital paintings inspired by comic book illustration. Rayaan says,”I grew up on the Cape Flats as a kid and one of my fondest memories is that of my gran buying me a stack of comics as a kid whenever I was sick and confined to my room to get better. This started my on-going love affair with drawing and especially comic books and I could usually be found clutching a pencil and emulating my favourite comic book artists.”
After high school Rayaan intended to study fine art at UCT but due to financial reasons he had to settle on studying graphic design instead and proceeded to graduate with a degree in design from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.
The designer tells us about his future plans,”I enjoy digital painting in Adobe Photoshop using my trusty Wacom Intuos3 and have recently started teaching myself Zbrush which has me hooked on digital sculpting. Being a video game fan I am also eager to do a course in Maya next year as well as Adobe After Effects as I would love to move into Visual Effects and 3D animation. I have an opportunity to work on an up and coming graphic novel which is a collaboration between SA and Australian artists due for release next year so I am amped about that since I am a big comic book and graphic novel fan.”
If you like what he does, Rayaan is available for freelance work through his studio called BlkOps Creative. The website is still under construction but you can reach him via email on firstname.lastname@example.org.
