Mieke van der Merwe is a graduating graphic design student from the Univesity of Stellenbosch. She loves drawing, illustration, making journals and collage. We think she is rather good at it too. This year Mieke worked a lot with an under-privileged community on a wine farm in Stellenbosch called Middelvlei. Throughout the year she held drawing classes for the children and then used their illustrations to make t-shirt designs. The t-shirts were sold to the students of Stellenbosch along with a pamphlet designed by Mieke to let people know about the Middelvlei community and how they can get involved in it’s various upliftment projects. She also designed postcards featuring photos of the children and created posters to advertise the project.
Mieke tells us about her future plans,”I would like to freelance next year especially in illustration and hope that through showcasing my work online I’ll build up contacts.”
You can find her on Behance, here. Alternatively get in touch with her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
