The MP3 Experiment is a more intense version of a flashmob. Participants all download the same MP3 and meet in a public place. At the same time everyone presses play to listen and follow the instructions that play through their earphones. The result is shown in the video above which was shot in Midtown Manhattan and features over 3 000 participants. The group responsible for these random acts of mass participation is called Improv Everywhere and was founded by Charlie Todd in August 2001. To date the company has executed over 100 missions involving tens of thousands of participants.
During Design Indaba 2011, the MP3 Experiment is coming to Cape Town. Follow the link for info on how you can join in or RSVP on the facebook invite. Even if you don’t want to participate still make sure you’re in Camps Bay at 15:00 on the 20th of Feb to catch the craziness.
