Design Indaba magazine is bringing us a film festival due to open on the 18th of Feb and run until the end of the Indaba expo on the 27th of Feb. The Filmfest promises to show the most interesting and thought-provoking design films. Headlining the festival, which will have two screenings each day – one at 6:30pm and the other at 8:30pm, is the Oscar-nominated Banksy-directed documentary, Exit Through the Gift Shop. Other films on show will include Contemporary Days, about the design power couple Robin and Lucienne Day, a British Art Programme including A Bigger Picture and Portrait, the film is about the life and work of Lella and Massimo Vignelli, Design is One: The Vignellis and the first feature-length animation by Javier Mariscal with Fernando Trueba called Chico and Rita.
The Filmfest will also include the fashion films Valentino: The Last Emperor and L’Amour Fou about Yves Saint Laurent. Architects will enjoy The World of Buckminster Fuller, a 1970s classic by Oscar-wining filmmaker Robert Snyder and Space, Land and Time subtitled ‘Underground Adventures with Ant Farm’ the documentary of the renegade 1970s architecture collective.
The films will be shown at the newly opened Freeworld Design Centre on Cape Town’s Fanwalk, at the corner of Waterkant and Buitengracht Street and entrance is R30. Bookings open on Computicket on 7 February 2011.
