22 Feb Guide to DI 2011: Pecha Kucha
Pecha Kucha will be presenting a selection of top creatives to give short and to the point presentations at the DStv Events Arena at Design Indaba Expo on Friday 25 February and Saturday 26 February at 16:30. Each creative has only 6 minutes and 40 seconds to speak about anything from creativity to inspiration, work to future aspirations and to engage the audience with 20 slides shown for 20 seconds each on their chosen topic.
On Friday they welcome to the stage illustrator and Design Indaba Emerging Creative 2009, Daniel Ting Chong, marketing manager of Cape Town tourism Lianne Burton, Andre Vorster on why Cape Town should be On Top of the World, Tsai of Tsai Design Studio, Catherine Henegan and Dylan Valley.
On Saturday artist Paul du Toit, well known for his symbolic use of form and bold splashes of colour will present. As will Zahira Asmal of Designing South Africa, fine art publisher David Krut, Paula Thomson of the Woza Moya empowerment project and sound artist James Webb.
Pecha Kucha, which takes its name from the Japanese term for the sound of “chit chat”, was devised by Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham of Klein Dytham Architects in 2003. What started as a forum for young designers to network and share their creative work with their peers in a public setting, has grown into an event that regularly takes place in more than 100 cities across the world.
