Recently stumbled upon a seriously cool piece of design work: Brand spanking new Unknown Union. Located at 24 Kloof street, it’s a fashion-forward men’s clothing store that has just opened up on our shores.
Unknown Union is an international collective specializing in architecture, design, fashion, music and cuisine with headquarters in Cape Town, South Africa. It prides itself on being the sole provider of international brands like Surface to air, Warriors of radness ,and aNYthing and many others, to the whole of Africa! They also say that there will be a locally produced range coming soon.
The interiors were designed by globally recognized, New York-based architectural designer, Rafael de Cardenas, and curated by a dynamic team of international music, design and fashion players. The whole idea behind “UU” is that it represents a collective of global creativity that is set to make itself a fresh and important part of Cape Town’s urban, cultural scene. The second floor of the Unknown Union boutique will function as home to an ever-changing environment featuring both artist and designer installations and pop-up boutiques: a project and ideas space for both international and local creators.
In 2006, two of Unknown Union’s partner’s Shuter and Jackson launched BBlessing, a boutique and clothing line based in New York City. Within its first year of existence, BBlessing was acclaimed as one of the 50 most influential boutiques in America by Women’s Wear Daily, one of the top 100 boutiques in the world by GQ (for 4 years running) and the best menswear boutique in New York by Citysearch.
With serious creative partners like these in the mix we’re certain Unknown Union is sure to be a hit in Cape Town. Well that’s completely up to you I guess.
