13 May TCM Africa – Pop Up Cinema
Last night I attended a really well organized, catered for and seriously entertaining event at Vaudeville. Here’s the low down of what the event was all about.TCM Pop Up Cinema is an all-new and exclusive cinematic experience traveling throughout South Africa in 2011, popping up in different locations to allow people from all parts of the country to experience the ultimate film encounter. The location and dress code will be disclosed in advance, but the film will remain a mystery. Everything from cult classics to old favourites; Oscar winners to sci-fi gems…screenings will feature all the very best of TCM.
The first Pop Up Cinema event took place in Johannesburg on February 24th, 2011! The Arts on Main was transformed into Kansas and the Emerald City for the night, with elaborate staging and actors dressed as Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Flying Monkeys and Munchkins, to support the screening of The Wizard of Oz. Over 150 guests, many also dressed in Oz related fancy-dress costumes, mingled in the transformed venue before following the yellow brick road to the relaxing and unique screening of the smash hit movie!
The second installment of this cinematic experience took place last night, and with mini casino setups around the place, a well serviced VIP bar (tab included), food and a great TCM classic featuring Elvis, these events are sure to go a long way!
