Designs4development, ‘a small, busy design studio’ run by Rosie, Melissa, Faigel and Roule, recently designed the new identity for Erick van Reenen’s shop in Long Street, called Lucky Friday located at 43 Long street, Cape Town.
Here’s a little information about the design process: “From the start we wanted to play with the idea of a corner cafe: a place we all know really well, filled with bright colours, sounds and smells of Cape Town. We thought it would be great to capture this vibrancy in the shop’s identity.
We looked at handmade signage around Cape Town’s corner cafes and created a few hand-made typography inspired designs. We really enjoyed the process and were very glad that we didn’t have to choose the final one. Erick’s final choice was a logo based on hand-painted cool drink advertisements, inspired by Cape Town produced cool drinks: Bashews, Double-O and Co-ee. The logo can change colour to represent four different flavours.
Because the logo was based on hand painted signage, we decided to paint the new shop sign by hand.”
