It’s not every day that you come across an artist that is not just talented but is doing something of meaning. Sindiso Nyoni has something to say and is using art and illustration to do it.
A Bulawayo native (born and raised in Zimbabwe), a self developed artist, activist, multi-disciplinary designer and contemporary illustrator, Sindiso gives us his design history:
Inspired by comic book art and vintage animation from an early age, I went on to study a BTech degree in Graphic design at the University of Johannesburg. I moved to Cape Town in 2009 and interned at Am I Collective. I relocated back to Jozi in 2011 and currently work as an Art Director/Designer for multi award winning agency, Black River FC. I’ve exhibited locally and abroad, (Mexico, Argentina, Greece, and the U.S). My work primarily consists of a pencil, ink, pastels, gauche, acrylic and digital media fusion, to create a subversive African ‘street’ style, which I call Guerill[art].My artwork has a strong link to social activism; combining images and text to inspire people out of placidity as well as tackle some of Africa’s most pressing issues in the form of visual art.
Some of Sindiso’s most recent works from this year and others from the past 3 years that we couldn’t leave out:

Book cover design and illustration for Lloyd Sachikonye's book; 'When a state turns on its citizens: 60 years of institutionalised violence in Zimbabwe'. Published by Jacana Media.
