15 Jul Am I Collective’s Maconini Abaphansi
The latest news from Am I Collective:
Am I Collective was delighted to be invited to take part in Inkygoodness’ Character Totem Home-Coming exhibition. This marks the return of the Character Totems to Birmingham, for a two week exhibition in July, all the way from Berlin where the show debuted as part of the official Pictoplasma Character Walk earlier this year. Featuring customised Totems by over 30 international artists and illustrators, including Mc Bess, Kate Hindley, Loulou & Tummie and Toy Factory to name a few, the exhibition received international recognition during the festival and has been featured on blogs & in magazines including Digital Arts.
For this new show, we created ‘Maconini Abaphansi’. Our artwork shows a photograph of an African totem creature found by explorers in their quest for new tribes on the dark continent. He is made up of African masks and robotic elements from the tribe’s recurring encounters with UFO’s.
Character Totem Home-Coming will run from 19th – 30th July, with a special launch night on Thursday 21st July 6pm – 9pm at the Zellig Gallery space, The Custard Factory, Birmingham, U.K.
