Jesse Kramer is a photographer based in Cape Town. Her principal subject matter is theatre which allows her access to the most interesting pictures, stories and characters.
Jesse tells us how she got into photographing theatre productions and what she loves about it,”I’ve always loved freezing moments in time, what a power trip! Digital set me free, I was always too worried about wasting photos with film. I studied some photography at UCT, but I was incredibly bad at capturing great images with a 5L paint tin pinhole and that put me off for a good decade!
My frustration with my point & shoot auto flash led me to buy an SLR, did a couple of courses, and started photographing theatre for friends in the industry while I was working as a freelance stage manager & propmaker. I’ve been shooting theatre primarily for the last couple years, really want to do film too, it must be all the drama & dress-up! (great lighting & smoke-machines don’t hurt either). Photography takes up all of my time these days and I’m loving it! Cape Town is a fantastically creative city & would love to document all the exciting projects and interesting people that make the heart of this city beat so loudly.”
