The Eco Design Initiative is a local NPO with the main objective to develop opportunities for young entrepreneurs in the field of sustainable design. The Initiative campaigns for “no kak” in design – no waste, no pollution and absolutely no harm. Through facilitating skills and culture sharing amongst global youth, they aim to raise awareness and understanding about sustainable design as a precursor to environmental, social and economic wellbeing.
THE ECO DESIGN COMPETITION 2011 – HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS
The Eco Design Initiative runs an annual Eco Design Competition and this year the theme is Home. The competition calls for designers, creatives and innovators to submit sustainable and innovative concepts relevant to the theme – home – that will solve a current problem and improve lives.
The deadline for proposals is the 16th of September. Read on to find out the competition criteria, how to enter and to read the Ts & Cs.
• All finalist prototypes will be featured in the No Kak! Eco Design Showcase, an exhibition to be staged in South Africa and Sweden.
• Finalists have the opportunity to participate in the Fresh Talent Workshop: a practical skills and culture share – social design experience hosted in Cape Town (Feb/Mar 2012) with a team of Swedish sustainable design entrepreneurs.
• 3 Competition winners will be selected to enjoy a Fresh Talent exchange visit to Sweden (June 2012).
• Additionally, the 3 winners will be awarded prizes to the following value:
1st place: R7000 / 2nd place: R5000 / 3rd place: R3000
